Pediatric Dental Services

Pediatric Dental Treatments

At Rockaway Beach Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry, we believe that kids’ dental care should be simple, stress-free, and built around their unique needs.

Dr. Nieku Manshadi offers a full range of pediatric treatments—from prevention to restoration—all in one warm and welcoming office.

We focus on comfort, communication, and doing what’s best for your child’s long-term oral health. Whether it’s a first tooth or a cavity that needs some TLC, we’ve got you (and your kiddo) covered.

Preventative Care

Preventative care is the foundation of a healthy smile. By keeping up with regular visits and building good habits early, we can help protect your child’s teeth from cavities and other dental issues before they ever start.

This type of care includes regular dental check-ups, professional cleanings, and fluoride treatments—all designed to strengthen teeth and keep tiny mouths in great shape.

When you stay consistent with these visits, you’re giving your child the best shot at lifelong oral health.

Minimally Invasive Pediatric Dentistry

Minimally invasive dentistry is all about preserving as much of your child’s natural tooth as possible.

We use the least invasive methods first (like fluoride or sealants) before turning to more advanced procedures. This approach is gentler on kids and can help reduce anxiety around dental care.

With techniques like silver diamine fluoride (SDF) and air abrasion, we can often stop early-stage cavities without drilling or numbing.

Dr. Manshadi always takes a conservative approach, using treatments that are effective, comfortable, and built around your child’s individual needs.

Regular Exams & Cleanings

Routine check-ups are one of the best ways to keep your child’s smile healthy. At each visit, Dr. Manshadi will gently examine your child’s teeth and gums, checking for any signs of decay, early orthodontic concerns, or developmental issues.

Cleanings remove plaque and tartar that even great brushing can miss. We also use these visits to help kids learn better brushing and flossing habits in a fun, friendly way. It’s a simple step that makes a big difference.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a natural mineral that helps strengthen tooth enamel and protect against cavities. It’s especially helpful for kids still learning how to brush thoroughly on their own.

During your child’s check-up, we may apply a fluoride varnish to give their teeth an extra layer of protection. It’s quick, painless, and a powerful way to help growing smiles stay strong.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a non-invasive treatment that can stop cavities from getting worse, without drilling or shots. It's especially helpful for young children, those with dental anxiety, or kids with special healthcare needs.

SDF works by killing cavity-causing bacteria and hardening the tooth surface. It does leave a dark spot where the decay is, but it’s a safe, easy option that helps buy time or avoid more invasive treatments.

Sealants

Sealants are thin, protective coatings placed on the back teeth, the ones most likely to trap food and bacteria. They smooth out those tiny grooves and help block cavities before they start.

The process is quick and totally painless. Once in place, sealants can protect your child’s teeth for years, making them a great option for kids who are still perfecting their brushing skills.

Fillings

When a cavity does appear, a filling is often the best way to fix it. We remove the decayed part of the tooth and fill the space with a durable material that restores both form and function.

At our office, we use tooth-colored fillings that blend in naturally—so no shiny metal when your child smiles. It’s a simple, effective solution that helps keep teeth strong and healthy.

Tooth-Colored Crowns

For teeth with more extensive damage or decay, a crown may be the right choice. Crowns cover the entire tooth, protecting it from further harm and restoring normal chewing and function.

We offer tooth-colored crowns that look and feel natural. They’re strong enough for little bites and built to last—while still looking great in photos and at school!

Extractions

While we always try to save natural teeth, there are times when a baby tooth needs to come out due to severe decay, infection, or making room for permanent teeth.

Dr. Manshadi performs extractions gently and carefully, with a focus on keeping your child calm and comfortable. We’ll talk you through every step and share what to expect during healing.

Mouth Guards

Active kids need protection—especially during sports. We offer custom-made mouth guards that fit comfortably and stay put, offering better protection than store-bought options.

They’re a must for contact sports, but they also help prevent injury from teeth grinding (bruxism) at night. A small investment now can help avoid big dental issues later.

Hospital Dentistry

For children with complex medical conditions, severe dental needs, or anxiety that makes in-office care difficult, hospital dentistry may be recommended.

These procedures are done under general anesthesia in a hospital setting, where we can safely complete treatment all at once.

Dr. Manshadi partners with local hospitals to provide this care in a safe, controlled environment. It’s an option we offer when it’s truly the best path forward for your child’s well-being.

Sedation Dentistry

Some kids need a little extra help to relax during treatment—and that’s perfectly okay. We offer safe, effective sedation options to make sure your child feels calm and comfortable throughout their visit.

Sedation options include:

  • Nitrous oxide: Also called laughing gas, this helps ease anxiety and wears off quickly after treatment.
  • Oral conscious sedation: A small dose of medication taken before the appointment to help your child feel relaxed and drowsy (but still awake).
  • We’ll talk through the options with you and choose the one that’s best for your child’s needs.
Special Needs Dentistry

Every child deserves great dental care—no matter their challenges. Dr. Manshadi has experience working with children who have developmental, behavioral, or medical conditions and takes a kind, flexible approach to every visit.

We tailor appointments to fit your child’s pace and comfort level, offering a quiet space, extra time, and techniques designed to reduce stress.

Our goal is to help every child feel safe, respected, and supported in our care.
